Terrorists Don't Represent all of Islam

Props to CNN. I stopped reading their news site when every other thing I saw was Tiger Woods or iPhone or Facebook related.

I wonder if there are parts of Islam that are actually illegal. By "parts of Islam" I don't mean any culture; I mean something from the essential religion that can be verified by a contextually accurate reading of the Koran.

Update: Also worth noting is George W. Bush's statement in September 20, 2001 to the Joint Session of Congress:
"Americans are asking: Who attacked our country? The evidence we have gathered all points to a collection of loosely affiliated terrorist organizations know as al Qaeda. They are the same murderers indicted for bombing American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, and responsible for bombing the USS Cole. . . .
"The terrorists practice a fringe form of Islamic extremism that has been rejected by Muslim scholars and the vast majority of Muslim clerics--a frings movement that perverts the peaceful teachings of Islam." (emphasis mine)

He also said,
"I ask you to uphold the values of America, and remember why so many have come here. We are in a fight for our principles, and our first responsibility is to live by them. No one should be singled out for unfair treatment or unkind words because of their ethnic background or religious faith."
